Education

Research Master student in Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. Completed my undergraduate studies in Political Science with a specialisation in International Relations at the University of Leiden. Graduated with first class honours. In terms of secondary education, my experience is quite diverse. I attended the Middle Years Programme at United World College in Maastricht. Then, I enrolled in a bilingual high school (Dutch-English) which offered a combination of subjects from the IB and the National Dutch education curriculum. Graduated in 2019 with honours for the subjects Philosophy, IB English Language and Literature (HL), and IB Global Politics (SL).

Experience

When it comes to tutoring, I believe that it is critical that the sessions go beyond simply a transaction of information from the tutor to the student. The development of critical thinking, ability to analyse a text and place it in a particular context, effective writing as well as a continuous engagement with the respective study material are all fundamental elements that every high school student should have in his or her toolkit. As a result, my approach does not only exclusively focus on mere surface-level understanding of the material but also developing the necessary skills to successfully use the knowledge gained. In addition, I also attempt to make the tutoring sessions as intellectually stimulating as possible and interesting for the student. Tutoring is often conceptualised as simply a mean to improve in a particular subject that the student is weak at. While that is the primary purpose, I have found out that in my one year experience of tutoring, there is a lot more to be gained from. For me being a tutor means instilling a passion to students for learning and encourage them to harvest a willingness to overcome challenges. As someone who has been through multiple educational systems, the need for good tutors is extremely high because they can make that difference between success and failure in school, and I consider myself someone who wants to make that difference. Finally, here are a number of practical matters in regards to tutoring session: - English is the primary language of instruction (although Dutch and Greek are also options if it is required by case). - In addition to teaching particular subjects, I assist with the process of applying to universities through motivation letter writing training as well as preparing for interviews. - Time management, planning and other organisational skills that high school students may need are also aspects that I can help students foster. - In terms of hours, online tutoring always provides a higher degree of flexibility for me. - For in person tutoring, I am available in the Hague and Rotterdam.
