Experience
I tutor GMAT, SAT and high-school maths to students in Amstelveen and Amsterdam. My approach to math is that it is a language: success depends on knowing the grammar and diction. Even more than English, Math is a language of synonyms, with dialects from different countries - even different centuries. I think the zero emphasis on this point is at fault for most students' problems with Math. In my experience of tutoring, it is possible to facilitate a student's "accelerated re-creation" of the language.
